Completely different circuit to Spa and Monza, so the last two races will be no good whatsoever as a form guide. Not that any previous race is this season. Therefore, just think of eight random drivers who might take the points in the race, and also two more random ones to take pole and fastest lap. And the (tediously obvious) bonus question: on what lap will the first safety car be deployed? Race is 61 laps in total.

Deadline for entries: Friday 25 September 2359 GMT
Note: UK is still on BST, which is GMT +1.

Can't believe there's been no posts until now.

First practice is underway, in the daylight. Bit odd to see them go along the roads I travel on ever so often.

Renault are running without their ING sponsorship too.

My predictions to come after second practice later tonight.

Grosjean lost it at the same spot Piquet crashed last year.

Rubens and Jenson top first practice. Alonso in fourth splits the Red Bulls, then the McLarens.

Looking good for Brawn, RBR and McLaren.

Didn't look to me like the Renault chaps on the pitwall appreciated the funny side of that - although the media centre apparently erupted into applause...

I bet Renault will be a bit tense if a safety car helps them in anyway during the race.

Vettel tops second practice ahead of Alonso, but Hekki and Heidfeld were impressive.

Predictions to come.

I was inclined to say there won't be a safety car, but given that there were two red flags already in practice, I think there will be one somehow.

Fuel adjusted grid, for once, shows very little difference from qualifying:

1 Lewis Hamilton (lap 17)
2 Nico Rosberg +0.553secs (lap 16)
3 Sebastian Vettel +0.617 (lap 14)
4 Mark Webber +1.023 (lap 15)
5 Rubens Barrichello +1.097 (lap 16)
6 Fernando Alonso +1.243 (lap 17)
7 Timo Glock +1.289 (lap 17)
8 Robert Kubica +1.511 (lap 19)
9 Nick Heidfeld +1.752 (lap 14)
10 Heikki Kovalainen +1.759 (lap 19)

Safety car out on lap 20.

What an accident between Sutil and Heidfeld.

Am I alone in finding the new street circuits (Singapore, Valencia) to be stupefyingly dull?

Try telling that the organisers.

Home race or not, as a race it is pretty disappointing. As a marketing exercise it is brilliant, but that's not the point at all.

I like the idea of a race here, but I wish they could do it properly. Right now it's all money-grubbing bullshit.

I've yet to see a decent street circuit anywhere.

They're too narrow for proper racing and there are rarely any overtaking manouvres made.

Monaco is included in that, it's all about the money, racing has nothing to do with it.

Nope, as per Rodge's comments, I think that there is no place for a street circuit on the modern F1 calendar...... but money talks

I don't see what the problem is, at least Singapore proved to be hugely demanding for drivers and cars where precision and bravery are particularly rewarded (not to say that all the other tracks do not). It isn't like their is a lot of great racing at Barcelona, Shanghai, Turkey or in Hungary.

I think however Valencia is terrible because it actually isn't a street track because only 10 % of it is held on public roads and with the high speed corners it may as well be a permanent track. Singapore is a unique track on the F1 schedule and the drivers should face a variety of different tracks.

It's demanding because it's hot, and also there is a lot of corners, some of which I think is quite unnecessary. I mean, that turn 10 chicane towards the Anderson Bridge, what was that about? The normal road is just one smooth flowing curve, what's wrong with that? And don't get me started on the complex area after the big grandstand going towards the pit straight.

The race is won through strategy, and not proper driving with overtaking. It is a nice visual spectacle no doubt, but not very appropriate for racing.

Singapore is planning a purpose-built track capable of hosting MotoGP races, probably ready in 2012 or 2013. I much rather have that instead of racing through our congested city centre.

I have to say it looks as though Button's going to luck into the Championship, based on his last several races (notwithstanding Monza, maybe).

If he ties it up with a race to go, no doubt he'll lap the field in the final race....

BeN - did you get to see any of the action up close? Any scoop shots taken over the weekend with local knowledge for your job?

Singapore looked fantastic on screen, but I agree with your view on some of the corners/chicanes. It's rather a shame because the event could make for a wonderful spectacle - if the racing wasn't so dire!

I wish, but I wasn't invited.

Nah. I had to get the best angles for coverage, and this meant watching it on TV. We had someone on site for pictures though.

Here's the report. It's very easy to guess where we were located.

Great spectacle - again - but a promising start developed into a disappointing race, with Hamilton's main rivals all taking themselves out of contention. Great drive by Our Lewis though, and I enjoyed Button's swashbuckling efforts mid-race to get himself ahead of Ruby.

Could that have been Alonso's last time on the podium as a Renault driver?
