Just discovering the joy of old brochure collecting on eBay. Picked up a 1990 Cavalier brochure and now I've gone back on to get the 1991 - my dad had a GL from this year - 1993 Facelift and winning on the 1994 edition, which is packed with umpteen models and variants.

It was never a stellar car I know, but I do miss the different trims and engines that were offered in the late eighties and nineties, before everything ended up 'premium' where you'll be lucky to get three engines and four trim levels. Going to add a Calibra brochure at some point and then go after ones with lots of variants. I'm thinking early nineties Escorts and Mondeo, Rover 200 & 400 et al.

For choice, I think we've lived through the golden age, sadly.

Merc A, B, C (4 door, coupe, 4 door coupe), E, G, S, SLK, SL, CLS, GL, etc etc


seems to me that there is more choice out there not less.

There's a decent condition Cavalier that lives in a wee village called Blairingone.
I think it's about a '93 version with the 5 spoke alloys.
It also has a numberplate something like 39 F which must be worth many times the car.

Apart from that one I can't remember when I last saw one.

I had a great laugh in my Cavalier 2.0 GLi. As a 19 year old more used to a 1.3 with 75 bhp, a fuel injected 2.0 with 115 bhp and a fair slug of torque was a great step up. Loads of room in it for mates and well built as well.

That was the engine my Dad had. I'll always maintain that the interior was of far better quality than my E36.

I actually see them quite regularly down this way, albeit in various states of repair or ruin most of the time.

Most of them have rusted off the planet or seen a grisly end on a short oval banger track. I've always maintained that Vauxhall's engines were better than Ford's at the time, but were let down by shite gearboxes. A Ford MTX75 on a Vauxhall engine would be a great combo.

I still search ebay now and again for Cavalier Turbos, but they're either beyond knackered, Barried and about to die or mega-cherished and silly money.

One of my Dad's mates had a Cavalier Diplomat as his company car.
Basically an SRi with the whole options list thrown at it plus an interstellar 5th gear that was useless below about 75mph.

I had a Cavalier when I was 20, it was my second car and replaced an Astra that I'd had for 3 years.. It was only a 1.6L, but it was only 3 years old when I got it (ex company car) and looked pretty smart in dark blue.

As I bought it from my dads company it was cheap (less than I sold the 5 yr old Astra for!) and I made a slight profit when I sold it 3 years later!

Yup CD - not SRi
Diplomats shit hot rare - more so as a few were launched K reg  pre facelift.
Facelift also slotted in CDX below Diplomat

When I was 21 doing my placement year I got given a shiny new(ish) MK2 2.0 GLi for 3 months as a company car, I felt the dogs bo**ox and made sure I visited all my mates over the country at the time.

I then bought a MK2 1.8 SRi just before I finished Uni, lovely car, went like stink and affordable insurance compared the same engine in an Astra GTE. I loved that car.

My Dad had already had 3, a 1.6GLS when they launched, followed by 2 CDi's.

My first proper company car was a MK3 2.0GLi, and the fifth gear was indeed interstellar. The Diplomat was a fully loaded MK3.

Unfortunately the Vectra followed the Cavalier and thus my interest in Vauxhalls disappeared.

Bsck onto OP - I've got loads of Car Brochures and have recently stated buying 1960's American car brochures. That was an era and country where choice really existed!

The Diplomat had those lovely propellor blade alloys, too. Always liked the Cesaro edition, with the colourful seat trim and alloys on what was basically an LS.

Diplomats shit hot rare - more so as a few were launched K reg  pre facelift.

The Diplomat had 'leather' and lots of toys (for its time).

The SRi was a bit of a sleeper, especially the later 16 valve versions. One of my Borther's mates had one in dark metallic grey with the propeller wheels.

Although, the ultimate Cav sleeper is the GLS V6 with wheel trims.

The Diplomat I 'knew' was dark grey.

A next door neighbour had a Mundano V6 but was always telling me how much better his old Cavalier V6 had been.

The Mondeo was good for V6 sleeperiness. There was a dark green GLX v6 near me in the late 90's, it was awesome.

Funny how people were quite happy to get a V6 even if it meant a lower spec. Don't think people would be so desperate to get a 3.0 turbo if it meant wheel trims and cloth or velour trim these days.

^^^ Ex Police cars were always a good shout back in the day for "sleeperness", my Dad had an old shape Granada 2.8i in the early 80's, that had a really low spec interior, but the V6 engine and suitably sorted suspension...  (it wasn't white either!)

That's why it appeals to people who don't need a cock extension.  

Not the fastest but I love the way it looks. It could be fitted with a 1.4 and I'd still love it.

I have a few brochures around, including the Cavalier V6 launch brochure which has the GLS spec, I also have a price list from the same era (1993 I think).  

I got rid of loads of brochures a short while ago as I couldn't be bothered to ebay them, probably worth a few quid but many were defaced.  I kept most of the Italian stuff, French stuff including the launch Clio 172 and V6 brochures, Citroen brochures from about '88 through to '95 (plus the one my Dad picked up in '81 when he bought a Visa), VAG stuff from the late 80's when I went through a phase etc. etc.  I even have some Merc W124 brochures too.

Chucked all the Japanese stuff (does anybody want a Nissan brochure from about 1992?).

The two I am saving to sell one day are the E60 M5 brochure which is mint and I have the Ford RS range from about 1992 with Sierra Cosworth 4x4, RS2000, RS2000 4x4 and Fester Turbo which is also mint.  I'll sell them for £50 the pair or £30 each  

The ones my mum chucked out that are worth a fortune are the Tintin Citroen 2CV6 ones - they seem to go for about £20 and I had four of the same frigging brochure!!!

Grey would be very rare - most were Green , Burgundy or Blue

Afaik don't think there was  no v6 glx -lowest trim was Si?
V6 cavalier lower than GLS was surpringly  Cesaro and even  one with no trim assigned but simply V6
For short time Rover had a 827 in pits " i" spec - and you can get 75s in lowest Classic spec with 2.5 engine

Checking an old guide it def shows  a Cavalier  2.5 V6 as basic version -this would be similar to the LX and a bit basic  Mondeo 24v you mention  -which also was badged by engine spec alone.

My dad was a traffic Policeman back in the day and used to tell me stories of running Fords, usually Sierras and square Granada's, that used to run development engines for Ford.

His favourite however was the Senator 24v.
