I seem to have broken forum protocol by buying without a debate!

Anyway, new car arrives today. It's (another) CLS 320cdi. It's got plenty of FG (Command, voicetronic, etc) is green/black with cream leather. I wanted a Grand edition (that's the CLS with the Brabus upgrade), but deals were thin on the ground. so I got a great deal on the car and have had some Brabus work done (it's done by MB and doesn't affect the warranty).  It boosts power to 272bhp and torque to 560nm. 0-60 is low sixes, but it feels much quicker.  Economy is unchanged (high 30's)

Am sure Autocar had their CLS Brabus fettled. Absolute no brainer it seems, makes an already great engine awesome.

CLS still my favourite Merc - along with the new gullwing.

BAN HIM...

We have missed out on not ONE but 2 possible threads as a result,

1) What car should I get?

2) What colour should the car be?

AND possibly should I get the mods done?

I am frankly appalled...

They did. It's the same mod. I can't find any link to it on the autocar website, but I recall they gave it a very strong review

Is it time for another of my diplomatic comments?

It's alright - he picked the best possible colour anyway! MB's green/black is one of the all-time great colours.

congrats!

I like the CLS too. Still one of the best looking cars in the Merc range.

So, not buying a Jag then ?

Just for clarification, every time someone posts that they are almost certain to buy a Jag but then fails to follow through - a small disabled child dies and their puppy is horribly maimed.

The CLS is the coolest Merc by miles so you are to be forgiven for not getting the Jag this time. You are obviously saving yourself for the new XJ?

Autocar did rave about the Brabus engine upgrade on their CLS.

I like the CLS most out of Merc's current range but I think it's starting to look a bit dated already.

Glad you had the nerve not to pick silver or plain black though.

I never consult before purchases. Anyone who does needs boiling.

Possibly true - but of course, you were keeping that blue French vehicle "forever"...

Talk a good game.

Chris, I seem to recall you asked Goodwin if you should buy the SL. Do you need a cauldron?

Sounds lovely

One of the neighbours has a black CLS 320 cdi on some nice AMG alloys and it's a very smart looking motor.

The Brabus upgrade sounds great.

One of my customers has one of these, and I was really impressed with it. I would certainly have a CLS on my "future possibles" list if they were a bit less massive!

I really like the CLS and the colour combo sounds lovely. I like the sound of the Brabus upgrade.

Had the car just over a week and have to say I'm very pleased. Not really tested the performance fully yet, but it feels really powerful with a huge wall of torque. Love the colour scheme and had so many positive comments about it. The car has more FG than I'd usually go for. Some is really good - the SD card slot so I can play my iplayer stuff, the hard disk to store music, the way the navigation has summary info in the centre of the speedo. Other stuff is perhaps not for me or needs more time playing with it - linguatronic or whatever it's called seems hard work. I've never bought the same car twice in a row before, but it's hard to think what would work better for me right now.

BTW, I've just come from Manchester to Windsor, light traffic meant a pretty quick drive and I averaged 40.5mpg - not bad when you think of the comfort and performance on offer.

The CLS is a beautiful looking thing. One of the GPs at our local health centre has one that is slightly lowered and just has 'Brabus S' badging on the rear. When I had an appointment with him I had to ask what engine and what he'd had done. He very bashfully informed me it was a 5 litre V8 with a couple of turbos added!
