VW Polo SE 1.2 (70ps ) road test.

XFR vs Panamera in the Elan Valley

MX5 Superlight

Some focus on serviceable cars going to the scrapyard under the scrappage scheme

All the Cars I've never bought feature...the Merc S-class

.....oh, and apparently the Alfa 159 1750 only does 147mph, not over 200 as was written!

Yea, you cant just go to the shops and buy them tho, and if you do then you pay through the nose. :(

I have bought NZ Autocar and NZ Top Gear, but they are written by worse monkeys then the editions then in the UK, and with none of the parts I liked!

Don't miss it Pete, it's not what it was in so many ways. I've stopped buying it regulary but have just picked up a copy to read in my hotel and they have published a first drive of the new RRS full of pics of... the old one!

How little do you need to know about cars to get a job with them?!

It's only just dawned on me that I haven't received today's copy, so the 6 for £6 deal must have ended and the Direct Debit has run out.

Not a bad deal is it Matt.
I still like collecting the Autocars for the road tests alone. Was looking back at some of the old Chris Harris driving adventures at the weekend in the early years of this century. Shame they can't get him back on board

Has anyone heard anything about what Harris, Meaden and Bovingdon are doing these days?

I've not heard what's happening. I think Harris and Meaden are both pretty good so I'd be surprised if they didn't get picked up by some mag. Not sure what bridges, if any, were burned in the past though

I can't see them going back to EVO as their posts were filled when they left, so it would mean creating new posts for them and in this current economy i don't think EVO have the capacity. Who knows.

I think Performance car could benefit graetly from them to push the mag forwards a bit, it would certainly then justify the 40p jump in cover price this month.

I wonder how much "pride" will play a part, they all left to pioneer this new format of car magazine, and for whatever reason it hasn't worked.

I enjoyed Harris's in the videos he did both for Autocar and DR (Meaden not so much) and Bovingdon I found irritating to listen to, but not to read.  Maybe they are trying to get another combined project off the ground?

I agree that EVO would be unlikely, and for some reason I suspect that Bovingdon would be last one to return there?

I didn't find Performance Car a great read this month to be honest. All mags have their ups and downs though and I still find the photography really good

It has been hit or miss quite often IMHO, i think i'll get the next issue as it says its a Ferrari special but after that i think i'll scan it for anything that grabs me before buying it rather than automatically buying it as i currently do.

CAR seems to have overtaken it in the quality stakes of late, it seems to have recovered from the 'Barlow' years now.

It may just be late, Matt. My copy only arrived this morning (Thursday).

Talking of Jason Barlow, for tha last few weeks, there's been a series on Ch. 5 (Thursday 8:00pm) about things being 'Designed from Disaster'. I was trying to place the voice of the narrator and it turns out it's Mr Barlow, himself.

Irony eh?

I haven't seen the series but have they done an episode on the DeLorean?
When it was launched, my dad got letter of the week in the Motor magazine for predicting it's demise. Turns out he was right.

What, you mean that scheme that Autocar clamoured for when we didn't have it 'cause the shortsighted prats didn't spot this coming?
Twunts.

Oh, and Pg34 is quite good - apparently the Techart chip alters the ignition to get more power.
On a diesel.

It was waiting for me when I got in from work. Saves me getting it from the shop on a Wednesday morning.
